Egypt’s Cabinet had said previously that the emergency would be lifted on Thursday.
Egypt has seen periods of unrest since a coup ousted former President Mohamed Morsy in July and the military installed an interim administration.
The emergency was ordered in August after clashes flared when security forces broke up huge Cairo sit-ins led by Morsy supporters. Hundreds died and thousands were injured.
